During the 2-day COMSOL Multiphysics® AC/DC training course, you will develop a strong foundation for your future electromagnetics and multiphysics modeling work. We will focus on simulations with the AC/DC Module involving electrostatics, electric currents, and magnetic fields for applications in the modeling of resistive and capacitive devices, coils, magnets, motors, cables, electromagnetic actuation, and other areas. The coupling of electromagnetic fields to other physics, such as heat transfer and structural mechanics, will also be covered.

To teach this course, we use a combination of guided hands-on training, theoretical and practical lecture, and self-guided exercises. The goal is to immerse you in all of the main aspects of using COMSOL Multiphysics® and the AC/DC Module, so that you feel comfortable working with the software. You will leave the course feeling confident that you are correctly solving your electromagnetics problems with COMSOL Multiphysics®.

  • Electric current and electrostatic modeling
  • Modeling coils, inductors, transformers, cables, capacitors, sensors and EMI/EMC
  • Modeling permanent magnets and linear and nonlinear magnetic materials
  • Calculation of force and torque in electromagnetic systems
  • Modeling of rotating electrical machinery and linear electromagnetic actuators
  • Coupling the FEA model with a lumped electrical circuit model
  • Stationary, frequency-response, and transient analysis of electromagnetic systems
  • The boundary element method (BEM) in electrostatics and magnetostatics
  • Multiphysics modeling: Joule heating and induction heating
  • Techniques to improve model performance by exploring symmetry, periodic conditions, and various solver options

Suggested Background

This course assumes some familiarity with the basic concepts of electromagnetics. To get the most out of the training, you should either have been using COMSOL Multiphysics® in the past or attended a course such as the COMSOL Multiphysics® Essential Training course.

Pricing

The fee for this 2-day course is 11.900 SEK per person. Course material, lunch, and coffee are included in the fee.

To participate in the course, attendees will need to bring their own laptop; a 14-day free trial version of COMSOL Multiphysics® will be installed on it at the course. Please refer to the system requirements page to see the minimum configuration required to install the COMSOL® software

Linus Andersson
COMSOL

Linus Andersson is an applications engineer providing technical support within COMSOL and to customers worldwide, specializing in electromagnetic and acoustic simulations. Linus joined COMSOL in 2003, after receiving his MS degree in engineering physics at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and completing his diploma thesis at CERN.

Magnus Olsson
COMSOL

Magnus Olsson joined COMSOL in 1996 and currently leads development for the electromagnetic design products. He holds an MSc in engineering physics and a PhD in plasma physics and fusion research. Prior to joining COMSOL, he worked as a consulting specialist in electromagnetic computations for the Swedish armed forces.

Durk de Vries
COMSOL

Durk de Vries is the technical product manager for the AC/DC Module at COMSOL. In addition to AC/DC, he works with the RF and Wave Optics modules. Before joining COMSOL in 2013, he did research on RF cavities and low-frequency electromagnetics at the Particle Accelerator Institute in Groningen and the University of Eindhoven.
