Doppler Shift

We have all noticed the Doppler effect when an ambulance passes by with its sirens blaring. The siren’s pitch suddenly drops the moment the ambulance starts moving away from you. Another effect you can notice is how the siren’s sound is very loud when nearby, but as soon as the ambulance has passed the sound becomes much quieter. This model simulates the acoustic Doppler effect by placing ...

Polymerization in Multijet Tubular Reactor

In a polymerization reactor for polyester manufacturing, the mixing in the reactor is achieved by impinging turbulent jets of reactants onto each other. The turbulence affects the reaction kinetics and quality of the polymer linkage. Turbulent flows involving rapid reaction kinetics are quite common in the production of polymers, and the complex interplay between fluid dynamics and fast ...

Homogenization in a Chemical Reactor

This model illustrates how to simulate a periodic homogenization process in a space dependent chemical reactor model. This homogenization removes concentration gradients in the reactor at a set time interval. The model demonstrates a technique by which you can first stop the time-dependent solver, then restart it with an initial value obtained based on the solution.

Dielectric Resonator Antenna

A dielectric resonator placed near a radiating element can be used to increase directivity and gain. Here, a block of quartz dielectric, with additional passive metallic antenna elements, is placed above a slot antenna. The fields in and around the antenna are solved for. The far field pattern and impedance is computed and improved performance is seen.

Small Signal Analysis of a MOSFET

This model shows how to compute the AC characteristics of a MOSFET. Both the output conductance and the transconductance are computed as a function of the drain current.

Contact Analysis of a Snap Hook Using a Penalty Formulation

This example simulates the insertion of a snap hook in its groove. Here, the purpose of the contact modeling is only to transmit correct contact forces in a global sense into the model, which is a situation well suited for using the penalty method. This contact algorithm is based on the penalty factor formulation related to the penetration of the solid parts in contact. In some cases, this ...

Assembly with a Hinge Joint

This example illustrates how to model a barrel hinge connecting two solid objects in an assembly. In this model, the details of the connection are not the focus of the analysis, therefore, the hinge joint is modeled using a Joint feature in the Multibody Dynamics Module. The connected parts can be either rigid or flexible or a combination as shown in this model.

Designing a Waveguide Diplexer for the 5G Mobile Network

A diplexer is a device that combines or splits signals into two different frequency bands, widely used in mobile communication systems. This model simulates splitting properties using a simplified 2D geometry. The computed S-parameters and electric fields at the lower and upper bands will show the diplexer characteristics in the Ka-band.

Lithium Battery Designer

This application can be used as a design tool to develop an optimized battery configuration for a specific application. The app computes the capacity, energy efficiency, heat generation and capacity losses due to parasitic reactions of a lithium-ion battery for a specific load cycle. In the app various battery-design parameters, such as the geometrical dimensions of the battery canister, the ...

Characteristic Parameters of a Coaxial Cable

Electrical cables, also called transmission lines, are used everywhere in the modern world to transmit both power and data. These cables carry electromagnetic energy, but instead of dealing with the full complexity of the electromagnetic fields, they are more commonly classified according to parameters such as capacitance, inductance, and impedance. In this model of a coaxial cable, we ...
